The position
As a Usability Engineer, you are expected to act as an advocate for end users in mid-to late-stage physical and digital medical device development projects. You will be responsible for planning and scoping the right usability activities to ensure the users’ perspectives are brought into the product development and that authority requirements are met. The essentials of the position, are: Conducting usability evaluations: study setup design, coordination, execution, analysis, and reporting. Execution of usability evaluations requires excellent interpersonal skills, as you will be interacting directly with a diverse user population as a moderator/interviewer. Close collaboration with key stakeholders, such as project managers, risk managers, systems engineers, clinical, design & external vendors. Reporting usability evaluations: present study results to key stakeholders with diverse professional backgrounds. Being responsible for documentation in the design control phases also means that you will be required to write usability reports of high quality.
In this role, you will report to the Head of Usability Engineering, who is also a Usability Engineer by education and training. As part of a talented and growing team, it is expected that you be part of optimizing our research process and activities on an on-going basis. Approximately 10-20 days of travel a year is expected in relation to executing usability tests.
Qualifications We believe the ideal candidate for the position meets the following requirements: Minimum BSc. within Engineering (Medico, Biomedical, Design or similar). Thorough data-collection efforts, qualitative research and analysis, and written reporting of these in high-quality. Possess skills in creating thorough design of usability evaluations, based on the projects’ needs, and an analysis of the user interface. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. It would be considered an advantage if you: Have knowledge of international standards and guidance’s including ANSI/AAMI/IEC 62366, ISO 14971. Documented stakeholder management experience from a large company. Have medical device experience. We value the right mindset and your interpersonal skills higher than your level of experience. You will join a team of highly experienced colleagues who will be there to help and develop your professional skills. As a person, you are self-driven, structured and have a desire to improve solutions through good usability. You are a strong team player recognised for your interpersonal skills. You are energetic, result-oriented and comfortable with taking initiative with a ‘can do’ mind-set and drive problem solving. You have an analytical mindset and can easily navigate in the intersection between data, people and processes. You are curious of nature and don't hesitate to ask questions when in need of answers/clarity. Lastly, you have a curiosity and passion for creating the best possible solution for our end users. You will join our Usability Engineering department consisting of 12 skilled usability professionals, who enjoy having a collaborative approach when setting direction within the field of usability.
