Research technician

We are looking for an all-round research technician to help with technical tasks within the NNF Quantum Computing Programme at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.

Who are we.

NQCP is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

The position

We are looking for an experienced all-round research technician with a broad understanding of different technical fields, but with a main interest in mechanical tasks. You will be a part of the team of technicians and engineers that help install, maintain, and develop our wide range of complex research equipment. The candidate is expected to contribute knowledge and hands-on within the following areas:

  • Handle installation of process and research equipment in collaboration with external contractors and local staff
  • Maintain and perform preventive service on research equipment in collaboration with the technical team.
  • Undertake technical collaborations with research teams for the optimization of mechanics for the fabrication and measurement facilities.
  • Be able to understand installation documentation and seek information if needed.
  • Act as a single point of contact between Campus Service as well as external contractors
  • Solve mechanical ad hoc tasks in collaboration with our mechanical workshop.
  • Experienced user of Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD for design tasks

The tasks vary a lot from small service jobs to major research equipment installation.

The candidate

The successful candidate should be passionate about all kinds of technical installations with focus on mechanics and be a skilled all round “hands on” type.

The professional background could be as a skilled machinist, electrician, or similar with focus on technical aspects. A strong will to work hands-on with multi-disciplinary tasks is essential and a broad knowledge of relevant areas like vacuum technique, low temperature equipment, pneumatics, and basic electrical skills is highly desirable.

We expect that the candidate should assist with existing projects taking care of maintenance, making small mechanical designs, mounting designs in setups, install fabrication equipment etc. Good networking skills and a good knowledge of Danish and English is essential to interact with research staff, local Campus Service and external contractors.
