Then come and join us as STRING's new Public Affairs Manager for Infrastructure.

STRING is a political member organisation, representing 15 cities, regions and municipalities from Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, who work together to drive green growth and become Europe's leading megaregion. To achieve that, STRING drives political work and initiates projects within two main areas: advocating for sustainable transport infrastructure, and creating a strong green growth agenda in Northern Europe.

STRING works at all levels of governance, both regional, national, international and with the EU institutions – and an important part of our remit is to bring together actors from the political, academic and business sphere to and strengthen cross border cooperation in our four member countries.

YOUR ROLE

As Infrastructure Public Affairs Manager for STRING, you will work in the Secretariat responsible for coordinating STRING’s projects, initiatives, communication, events and political visions, and making them happen. We are based in central Copenhagen.
Your main role will be to shape and lead our Public Affairs efforts on infrastructure in our four member countries Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany, as well as in Brussels, and translating our narrative into political advocacy in political forums, at meetings and events, and in the press. This will require a solid understanding of current key issues and challenges for infrastructure in Europe today, their status and solutions.

The Infrastructure Public Affairs Manager will primarily work with our management and members to identify needed action points, spot opportunities to contribute to the public debate, and prepare position papers and presentations, and will frequently represent STRING as speaker or participant at various political events and conferences in both the public and private sector.

YOUR PRIMARY WORK WILL INVOLVE:

  • Developing and implementing a Public Affairs action plan for STRING's strategic infrastructure track, as well as review whether the decided upon infrastructure priorities for STRING are the right ones.
  • Identifying stakeholders and important events in relation to the PA plan and secure participation and influence at meetings and events.
  • Identifying, keeping on top of, and influencing relevant policies for the STRING agenda, with a main focus on infrastructure, and cross-border political advocacy and alignment.
  • Stakeholder management, including building networks and maintaining good relations to relevant stakeholders and authorities, including STRING members, EU institutions and private actors.
  • Preparing position papers, policy revisions, presentations and consultations concerning infrastructure.

YOUR PROFILE

STRING has a small Secretariat with a large political mandate. As such, we are looking for a true self-starter with high integrity and flexibility, who can easily adjust to the fast-paced and often frequently changing climate of a political secretariat. You have to be energetic and fast thinking, and thrive under responsibility and the freedom to seize opportunities as you see them and structure your work as you see fit. Being able to still have an organized approach when the world around you is occasionally slightly chaotic is key.

YOU ARE:

  • Energetic and fast-thinking - quick to translate a political idea into tangible action.
  • Analytical and creative in equal measure - you organise your way into action and translate your ideas into plans.
  • A firm believer in the power of politics and working together - and wanting to do your bit.
  • Knowledgeable on and interested in the infrastructure agenda, with a proven track record of delivering transport policy.
  • An excellent communicator with exceptional written and spoken English, and fluency in one of the Scandinavian languages. A working level of German is beneficial.
  • Likeable and a natural networker with deep stakeholder management experience. You know how to get in and forge relevant relationships across sectors and jurisdictions.
  • A self-starter with proven experience in delivering on targets.
  • Well versed in the political engine of Brussels, and with solid business and technical acumen.
  • Imaginative in your approach to problem-solving.
  • Professional at all times, with excellent communication and presentation - but also knowing when to apply humour and a more relaxed attitude.
  • Friendly and personable by nature with strong integrity.
  • Full of knowledge and experience from working with cross border issues especially within the field of infrastructure.
  • Someone who does not get flustered when plans change of things do not go as hoped


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years working experience working with Public Affairs issues concerning infrastructure from industry or public organisations.
  • A relevant degree within political science or business administration is essential –master level is preferable.
  • Experience from working in a political organisation is meriting.
  • Experience from working with the EU institutions, especially within the field of infrastructure is meriting.

A substantial amount of travelling activity is to be expected, particularly within Denmark, and to Sweden, Norway, Germany and Brussels in relation to meetings and events. PRACTICAL INFORMATION:

  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • 37,5 hour a week contract, with your base on Nørregade 7b, Copenhagen
  • STRING is technically an administrative part of Region Zealand, which means that you will be employed by Region Zealand in accordance with Danish labour law.
  • Working language is English or Scandinavian.
  • Salary to be negotiated according to Danish Region’s guidelines.
