Cryptera have nearly 40 years of experience from developing and manufacturing secure payment solutions to the financial industry. While the objective is to continue and further develop the payment portfolio the company is in the midst of an exciting and thrilling transition period – going from a traditional hardware/ software enterprise to explore and develop the vast possibilities within IoT Security. On behalf of Cryptera we are now searching for a new Head of R&D.

Cryptera´s R&D department is divided in the embedded software team (where the development-processes/- tools are characterized by: Agile development, scrum/sprints, the practice of Continuous Integration controlled by Jenkins and the usage of Git and Python) a Java team developing the Secure Provisioning System and a hardware team which designs the hardware for Cryptera´s own products.

All teams are filled with team members who are passionate about their work and who love to write code while having fun, in a creative and informal environment where there is room to try out new technologies and concepts. And this department with a total of 12 employees and one manager for the HW team will be “yours” for you to engage with and grow as a player-coach.

You’re still, to some extent, a developer on the team and strongly believe that a technical leader is more effective if you are involved in the team’s day-to-day activities.

You can act as an architect for the team. Drive the technical vision based on business goals and make a vision that is known and shared by everybody on the team.

You can coach the team by facilitating discussions instead of owning them. Actively listen and give actionable feedback. If any doubt set the priorities and the direction to focus.

You will be a part of Cryptera´s management-group and will report to the company´s CEO.

Your background:


  • Preferably you hold a Master within computer science, information technology, electrical engineering or IT Security and Cryptography (Cryptology) and have some years of experience from a similar environment as described above.
  • You have at least 5 years’ experience in leading Teams and individuals from a similar role and – environment.
  • You do have some experience in project-management
  • You are close to and familiar with the latest and updated development-tools and have experience from modern software-development.
  • A profound interest in security

You have experiences with:


Technologies: Cloud computing (AWS/Azure)/XML/JSON/REST/HTTP/Apache Tomcat/Linux/Java

  • System development: Enterprise architecture/ Micro Services/ Web services
  • Agile Methodologies: Scrum/Safe/CI/CD/DevOps – Process and tool stack
  • Preferably: Cryptography/PKI/ Industrial cyber security and IoT (security) standards e.g. IEC 62443
