The role of the Agile & Scrum Center of Excellence Manager


The Agile & Scrum Center of Excellence (CoE) Manager is responsible for driving and accelerating the Agile transformation of the Technology Services & Engineering (TSE) organization. You will manage a centralized team of scrum masters and Agile coaches working across the organization to accelerate adoption of Agile and Scrum best practices and routines and to generally accelerate and drive the TSE organization’s Agile transformation journey.

The Agile & Scrum CoE Manager will assess current state, identify, and share techniques, practices, strategies, and principles to support teams in the adoption of the Agile framework and improve the way they work. The CoE manager will be focused on overseeing the Agile Center of Excellence including defining and establishing best practices and organizational operating models, developing and maintaining the Agile transformation program, as well as managing/developing and coordinating across the centralized team of scrum masters and Agile Coaches. The CoE Manager will also implement Agile governance and continuous improvement by monitoring Agile maturity, ensuring teams are performing all necessary ceremonies.

Key Responsibilities


  • Apply, teach, coach and mentor Agile frameworks, techniques and practices at an organizational level
  • Help the organization decide on the most appropriate agile frameworks, techniques and practices for their environment
  • Use and adapt a wide range of facilitation skills to guide teams or groups of people through a process to achieve an effective result
  • Adapt techniques to design and build bespoke sessions tailored to any audience to meet their desired objective
  • Plan or advise on agile implementations or improvements across your platform
  • Help the Organization and Teams understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items and how these relate to the work being done
  • Help find techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management
  • Help establish empirical product planning for a complex environment
  • Coordinate and deliver a holistic program of Agile and Scrum events for TSE, actively liase with and contributes to broader Community of Practice strategic initiatives.
  • Apply empiricism through the three pillars of transparency, inspection and adaption to reduce and waste across the organisation.
  • Support a mindset of experimentation to allow for rapid responses to change whilst being able to articulate the benefits through hypothesis testing.
  • Understand who your customers are, how your products support them and how the work you are doing impacts them.

Key Skills


  • 10+ Years of Agile experience and 5+ years of leading an Agile CoE
  • Experience forming and managing high performing teams, providing direction and ensuring team members are able to develop and grown.
  • Demonstrated experience and strength in collaborating with and influencing across a wide variety of stakeholders across locations
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience coaching organizations on agile best practices, expert in all topics involving agile and experienced working at the leadership (portfolio) level
  • Significant experience acting as a Scrum Master or agile coach in a fast-moving tech environment
  • Deep knowledge of agile principles and the flexibility to adapt your experience to new and evolving environments
  • Experience with large scale software delivery and/or agile transformation at scale in large enterprise organizations
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate complex messages and teach new concepts
