Your future position lies within the Disaster Management Team in the International Department. The DM team unit consists of 12 team members in HQ and 10 based abroad. The DM team work to support response operations in global humanitarian disasters and crises, ensure surge capacity, operational management and response support as well as provide strategic and technical guidance within disaster management.
We are in the midst of finalizing the new International Strategy 2022-2025, which means that you will be joining our team at an exciting time, where visions outlined in the strategy will be translated into concrete action.
Your future position
As Senior Humanitarian Advisor your main purpose will be to drive and strengthen DRCs strategic focus within surge. Promoting a stronger collaboration and interaction with the IFRC Surge Team, ensuring that DRC has a leading role in the IFRC Rapid Response framework, including strengthen DRC surge set up to be aligned to the operational needs and IFRC Rapid Response requirements.
Your tasks will include
- Strengthen DRC strategic focus within the IFRC Rapid Response framework and ensure that DRC has a leading role in the IFRC Rapid Response mechanism.
- Strengthen DRC interaction and collaboration with the IFRC Surge Team.
- Promote DRC delegates under the Rapid Response framework.
- Provide overall coordination of the DRC rosters.
- Ensure technical capacities are available and aligned to operational needs and the requirements in the IFRC Rapid Response mechanism.
- Provide briefing and debriefing; Plan and execute training of DRC rosters; Develop and adjust DRC training materials in close coordination with DRC Roster focal points.
- Function as Operation Coordinator in relation to DRC response operations, promoting timeliness and quality in humanitarian response operations.
- Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of humanitarian operations
- Deploy as surge delegate (1-3 missions a year)
Are you the ideal candidate for our team?
We are looking for a professional with strong experience within relevant field. You have a background in the humanitarian sector and have experience from international disaster response operations. You have been working with disaster management in international operations and have experience from the field. You are strategic, structured, and systematic but also a good communicator, facilitator, and a team player. You have excellent Danish and English language skills. French and/or Arabic is considered an asset.
- A master’s degree in social science, international development or similar.
- A minimum 5 years of experience in the Humanitarian sector, International Affairs, or related fields (required).
- Experience working with or for the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement or similar larger humanitarian NGO (required).
- Knowledge of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and the IFRC Rapid Response (strongly preferred).
- Experience in disaster preparedness and/or disaster response (required).
- Prior experience managing grants as well as sub-recipient relationships.
- Experience working with local/national partners.
- Experience delivering community-based programs.
- Experience and knowledge of Project Management and the project management cycle, including project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
- Must be responsible, self-motivated, and have the ability to work independently.
- Must be detail-oriented and organized.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and diplomacy.
- Must be flexible and willing to participate in conference calls outside of regular business hours, and work remotely if needed.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 30%.

DRC works both with long term activities and short-term response particularly within health, PSS, migration, disaster preparedness and response.

The position is a full-time position - 37 working hours per week. The position requires flexibility as up to 3 months of travel a year is expected.
You will refer to the Head of Disaster Management in Copenhagen.
Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargain agreement with HK and AC and will be between DKK 44,000 - 47,000 including allowances and pension depending on experience and qualifications.
