Up until the Covid-pandemic Billund Airport grew for 10 consecutive years in a row, and post-covid the airport have delivered growth benchmarked against our previous record year in 2019. The reason is of course a wealthy, and travel eager market which have been little effected by the pandemic as well as our route development effort which have mirrored the potential. If you want to work in a team of truly dedicated market development and marketing colleagues, now there is a rare chance to join! In 2018 and 2019, the Billund Airport team, won the Routes Europe Marketing Award and in 2019 we even took the World Route Award as well.
We would like to strengthen our team of eight devoted specialists with a new member, as we are looking to recruit a new ‘Market & Route Development Manager’, which will focus on attracting more passengers from new capacity on our existing airline customers as well as developing new routes with new airlines.
Our set target is to beat the market coming out of the pandemic and continue to grow quicker than peer airports in Europe – and attract the first long haul route to Billund within the coming few years – if you could see yourself facilitate this, please read on!
The job in a nutshell
It will be your job to know our market extensively from a data point-of-view and you will build analysis/presentations, which will highlight this to our existing and potential new airline customers. You will work with our existing airline customers to secure seat and frequency increase and build relationships with new airlines. You will determine, negotiate and secure new route opportunities, generating more passengers at Denmark’s second largest airport.

Who are you
If you have a proven track record in the airline industry/airport business it would be fantastic – furthermore we would like you to have 3-5 years’ experience. If you have a true passion for the airline/airport industry on top of other relevant business experience, it might also be sufficient.
You should have experience of working within a challenging commercial environment and will be able to demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. You will be required to be a determined self-starter with excellent analytical and communication skills.
You should have good presentation skills, coupled with ability to build and maintain effective relationships. In our team we all have a “Can do” attitude, and that will be expected from you too.
We would like you to come and live close to our office at the airport, but if your family situation is such that you are difficult to move momentarily, and currently live some distance from us, you should be prepared to drive/fly in to be in Billund at least a few days on a weekly basis.

The daily job
- Identify, assess and select route opportunities through effective data analysis of the West Danish market and competitive environment
- Identify, analyse and develop existing route opportunities and attract new routes and airlines to Billund Airport
- Proactively build and maintain strong working relationship with new and existing airlines and third parties to gather analytical and route rationale data.
- Assess possibilities on new routes/markets/airlines based on potential of traffic growth, strategic fit, support and mechanism and possible entry opportunities
- Represent Billund Airport at aviation exhibitions and events, with the view of bringing in new opportunities
- Implement data and knowledge from your close colleagues on issues such as Tourism flows, Travel Trade requirements and Air Cargo volumes to design a combined and effective passenger route development strategy and execution.
- Source and secure route opportunities through high level negotiations with airports across Europe, Northern America and Asia
- Complete and maintain contractual agreements with various airlines
- Work closely with your close colleagues within our consumer marketing and communication team on raising awareness on existing and new routes from Billund Airport.
Who are you
