The position As Principal Scientist, your focus will be on identification of novel therapeutic targets, initiations of external opportunities from academia, biotech or pharma, and delivery of drug discovery projects primary to our obesity pipeline. You will be responsible for scientific research with a highly business strategic fit, global mindset, and cross-functional operation. You will develop scientific approaches to establish and characterize novel targets in adipose biology. In this role, you will: Establish in vitro assays to explore mode-of-actions Establish, implement, and utilize new advanced multicellular in vitro disease models in collaboration with fellow scientists across the organization Act as disease expert within one or several of our therapeutic areas Lead projects from preclinical to phase I Collaborate with scientists in cross-functional teams to discover tractable and high-impact disease targets Initiate and manage external research collaborations Qualifications You hold a PhD with more than 10 years’ experience in adipose biology and metabolic diseases within pharma or biotech industry. We expect you to have the following competencies: Strong research experience in adipose tissue biology, such as adipocyte differentiation, control of cellular energy expenditure and lipid handling Good disease understanding of obesity Proven experience in target identification and drug development Good understanding and experience in progressing projects from early research into clinical development phase I Proficiency in both spoken and written English As a person, you enjoy taking initiative and have a strong personal drive, dedication, and business mindset. You are a good team player and motivate others to drive the process. Furthermore, you build networks and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. About the department The Brain and Adipose Biology group is part of the Global Drug Discovery organization, located in Måløv in the greater Copenhagen area of Denmark. Our group consists of 7 technicians, 8 scientists, 3 PhD students, and a technician trainee. The purpose of our group is to test ideas within the cardiometabolic area and deliver high-quality data to address these ideas. We also support evaluation of drug candidates in close collaboration with other parts of the organization. We are specialised in in vitro assays, where we strive to bridge the gap between in vitro and in vivo by using human derived cells and models mimicking physiological conditions.
