The Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a three-year PhD position within the research areas of clinical psychology and depression recovery. The Department of Psychology is a vibrant, inclusive workplace hosting an engaged group of faculty, post docs and PhD students. The department has close collaborations with the Odense University Hospital and its research covers a wide range of health-related topics and methodologies.

The position and the project

The focus of the position is on evaluating prediction models of clinical trajectories in people in recovery from depression, with the aim of predicting which clinical factors (e.g., type of therapy), individual characteristics (e.g., age), stressful life events (e.g., breakup), and/or possible interactions of those lead to sustained recovery versus relapse into a new depressive episode. These clinical models have been developed by our group through retrospective data analyses and now need to be evaluated prospectively. The position starts on the 7th of August 2023 for a three-year employment of 37 weekly hours.

We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious candidate with an interest in the area of clinical psychology, depression recovery, and quantitative methods. Interest in and experience with interacting with people in a professional capacity (e.g., through an internship) are also required for this position, as the successful candidate will be expected to recruit and interview people with a history of depression. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Danish are thus essential for the position. Experience with recruitment of participants for research purposes is an asset, but not a prerequisite for the position.

The PhD position is nested within the larger research project “Dynamic network modelling of depression: towards personalised treatment targets” funded by the Lundbeck Foundation. The successful candidate will join a research group with an expertise in clinical psychology, psychiatry, mathematical modelling and statistics, led by Associate Professor Maria Semkovska in a collaboration between the Department of Psychology, the Odense University Hospital and the Danish Twin Research Center. The primary place of work will be the Psychology Department, University of Southern Denmark, Odense.
