A full-time position as an Associate Professor is vacant at the Research Unit of Psychiatry, the Department of Clinical Research (KI), University of Southern Denmark (SDU)

The position is limited to 5 years with a possibility of extension. Commencement as soon as possible.

The academic position, expectations, and qualifications:

The creation of the position directly supports ambitions within the topic of personalized medicine and big data outlined in “Psykiatriplan” from The Region of Southern Denmark

The applicant is expected to have an excellent academic track-record and research experience within psychiatry and documented experience with applying state-of-the-art methods to answer research questions within the field of precision psychiatry.

The candidate is further expected to demonstrate a high level of independence and ability to plan, design, and conduct studies within the topic of precision medicine to advance current knowledge and inform clinical practice. Acknowledging how broad the topic of precision psychiatry is, we welcome applicants with specific interest within areas of precision medicine, precision intervention, and/or precision prevention through early identification of at-risk groups or individuals.

There will be opportunities for the candidate to independently plan, design, and conduct research projects within the topic of precision psychiatry, focused on specific mental disorders (diagnoses) or outcomes. This work should be aimed at supporting risk stratification and individualized care within psychiatry. For all projects the candidate is expected to identify and collaborate with local, national, and international experts.

The candidate will further be responsible for conducting statistical analyses for planned studies and oversee/supervise statistical analyses conducted by collaborators or students working in the group. Further responsibilities will be securing updated datasets suited for the research ambitions of the group, including creating and updating datasets on servers/platforms at Statistics Denmark and/or Sundhedsdatastyrelsen, as well as ensuring all procedures and handling of data follows guidelines and rules (GDPR).

Other expectations include the candidate actively contributes to the research ambitions outlined by the Region of Southern Denmark, aimed at applying the use of precision medicine in research and consequently in clinical care in the region.

All work will be done in very close collaboration with members of the working group for precision medicine and is expected to support the development of precision medicine within the department.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD within Health Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Biology, or equivalent qualifications. Furthermore, the successful candidate will preferably document a strong track record of:

  • Dissemination and publication (international peer-reviewed journals)
  • Research output specifically relevant for advancing precision psychiatry, including work considering individual variability in risk factors related to environment, genes, biological measures and/or lifestyle.
  • Research output demonstrating ability to answer complex research questions applying different use of analytic approaches and study designs.
  • Supervision and teaching experience (Bachelor to PhD level)
  • Attracting external research funding.
  • Using data from e.g., population registers and/or biological, genetic, or -omics data for research purposes, including track record of handling large datasets, hands on experience with applications for data access, and complete understanding of requirements for working on datasets including personal and sensitive information.

Salary and terms of employment

The applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
