At DTU Biosustain you will break new ground at the absolute forefront of what is possible with regards to metabolic engineering of microbes for production of biochemicals.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to optimize the production of volatile bulk biochemicals by metabolic engineering of thermophilic organisms. The goal of the work is to contribute to the development of processes that can mitigate the emission of greenhouse gases. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will include:

  • Metabolic engineering of thermophilic bacteria using state of the art synthetic biology tools.
  • Involve computational pathway analysis for target prediction.
  • Contribute to developing and improving molecular biology tools for thermophilic bacteria.
  • Test the engineered strains by fed batch fermentation.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervising BSc and MSc student projects.

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Other qualifications include:

  • Proven experience with metabolic engineering for biochemicals production.
  • Experience with plasmid stabilization approaches.
  • Experience with fermentation-based processes.
  • Industrial experience may be an advantage.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
