About the department Microbial Expression (MiE) is part of Recombinant Technologies and has microbial strain engineering, protein engineering and protein production as core tasks. The primary responsibility of MiE is to ensure timely support to the Novo Nordisk research project portfolio with a broad range of protein expression technologies, strain optimization tools and development of production strains. About the position The Post Doc project constitutes an important part of a collaboration project between Novo Nordisk and Novozymes and has an intended duration of 24 months. The aim of the collaboration is to evaluate the potential of Gram+ bacteria as a production host for pharmaceutical-relevant molecules. The primary focus of the Post Doc project is to genetically engineer Gram+ host strains to improve the production and/or quality of peptides to a pharmaceutical-relevant level through the use of different HTP molecular genetic strategies. In addition to this, the collaboration aims at assessing the potential of establishing recombinant incorporation of non-canonical amino acids (ncAAs) in Gram+ organisms. The workplace of the Post Doc will be divided between research facilities of both Novo Nordisk and Novozymes. The position offers a unique opportunity for developing scientific and personal competencies within two international research organisations. Qualifications The ideal candidate is an excellent molecular biologist holding a relevant scientific degree (biology, biochemistry, engineering or similar) supplemented with a PhD within microbial molecular genetics, synthetic biology or other relevant disciplines. You preferably have experience with:

Heterologous protein expression in microbial hosts

Genome editing tools

Application of procedures for engineering, screening and characterization of proteins

Prior experience with Gram+ host engineering and/or experience with recombinant incorporation of non-canonical AA will be an additional asset.

You will cover all aspects of the experimental work from planning and design of experiments over practical execution of experiments, to documentation and presentation of the results to colleagues across the organization. Good communication and knowledge-sharing skills will therefore be a prerequisite.
