The Position
As the Head of Structure & Interactions 2, you will work closely with the Head of Structure & Interactions 1 to establish the direction for the two departments, which are crucial for our project pipeline by ensuring optimal drug design and screening capabilities. A primary focus will be to build a future-ready organization that integrates modeling and structural insights into design thinking, achieved through close collaboration with Computational Drug Design.
Leveraging your collaboration skills, leadership experience, and strong scientific background, you will guide the team and participate in cross-organizational collaborations to maximize impact in the early-stage project portfolio. You will work closely with other leaders to maintain an overview of activities and engagement in the project matrix organization, ensuring resources are allocated and team members are guided according to project priorities and criticality. Together with your co-lead and your team, you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Driving the strategy towards a future-ready setup for drug design and screening using state-of-the-art technologies, combining internal excellence with external opportunities.
  • Ensuring smooth collaboration with the sister department to deliver on shared responsibilities and execute overall department strategies.
  • Leading a dedicated team of specialists in structure biology and binding kinetics, enabling both screening and characterization of drug candidates in early-stage research.
  • Developing team members and fostering an inspiring and motivating working environment, focusing on individual empowerment and responsibility for defined areas.
  • Building and expanding a robust and agile external collaboration model for the two departments.
  • Ensuring cross-portfolio screening and characterization of drug candidates across the ideation phase and early projects towards later stages of development and transferring knowledge to colleagues in CMC.
  • Driving global collaborations with both internal stakeholders and external key opinion leaders in the field, as well as engaging externally for scientific global networking.
  • Facilitating team participation in project innovation work, including providing input to new internal project proposals and evaluating external opportunities.

  • Qualifications
    To thrive and succeed in the role, you should have:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in leading and developing a team of scientists and technicians, with a focus on psychological safety and people development.
  • A Ph.D. in natural sciences or life sciences with a solid scientific record within drug discovery disciplines, preferably with relevant experience in structure biology related to protein interactions.
  • A proactive, creative, and visible leadership style with the ability to set a clear direction in a complex environment.
  • The ability to foster a curiosity-driven innovation culture while driving business strategies, focusing on fit-for-purpose deliverables.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders at various levels.

  • About the Department
    Structure & Interactions 1 and 2 consist of 13 highly skilled scientists, 5 technicians, and students. Our focus areas include technologies enabling increasing screening throughput, automation, and digitalization of binding/interaction workflows, and strategically applying structural insights impactful in the design phase. The departments are anchored in Assay, Analysis and Characterisation, Global Research Technology (GRT). We work in a flexible, highly collaborative, and cross-functional setting with a continuous focus on development of innovative technologies and personal competencies. We strive to lead by intent-based leadership principles to ensure everyone feels valued, motivated, and proud of their work and takes responsibility for their actions. We constantly strive to increase the level of psychological safety, within the teams and in the organization. In GRT we collaborate across the full research value chain to expand and progress the early pipeline.
