The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), invites excellent candidates for one or more tenure-track assistant professorships in adult clinical psychology and psychotherapy research. We especially encourage applicants with a background in psychotherapy research and adult mental health promotion and treatment in clinical settings as well as strong teaching qualifications to apply, but we also welcome applicants with a background in other areas of clinical psychology.

The position is available from March 1st, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

A tenure-track assistant professorship is a six-year, fixed-term academic position involving both research and teaching. The successful candidate will be obliged to complete a teacher-training course designed especially for assistant professors and will be expected to be able to take part in all the activities of the Department, including examinations and administration.

Approximately six months before the end of the six-year period as tenure-track assistant professor, a committee set up by the Dean will assess whether the assistant professor can be considered for promotion to a tenured position as associate professor.

Introduction
The Department of Psychology has a strong commitment to basic and applied research as well as emphasis on post-gradual training activities, and outreach to society, and is organised in research clusters and groups with associated post-graduate students and postdocs.

Education at the Department of Psychology is directed towards the psychological profession and is characterized by a high level with respect to theoretical, methodological, and applied contents. Teaching is also oriented towards other scientific disciplines and the department takes part in several interdisciplinary academic programmes.

Research at the Department of Psychology is of high international and ethical standards and is characterized by a fundamental curiosity to shed light on various phenomena from a psychological perspective. Further, the research takes advantage of a strong synergistic interaction between basic and applied psychological research and knowledge, as well as of interdisciplinary approaches.

The Department of Psychology is internationally oriented and is characterized by strong and elaborate collaboration with other internationally leading researchers as well as working in close partnerships with public and private institutions and organisations in Denmark and abroad.

Qualifications
Applicants for a tenure track assistant professorship must be able to document original scholarly production at an international high level and have a strong focus on promoting the practical aspects of their research within the fields of adult mental health, underlying mechanisms and evidence based treatment of psychopathology.

Candidates will be assessed in relation to the following criteria:

  • A documented original academic production at international high level within the field of Clinical Adult Psychology and Psychotherapy Research
  • Strong teaching experience
  • Management experience in relation to research and teaching
  • Strong clinical experience
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with societal impact and further education activities
  • Strong ability to collaborate with professionals (clinicians, mental health professionals etc.)
  • Experience with teaching/support of professionals outside a university setting
  • A commitment to working as part of a team and assisting in the smooth running of the department and its teaching programs
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills that enable the development of departmental, national, and international networks

With regards to research, it is vital that the candidate has the capacity for and interest in developing psychotherapy research in clinical adult psychology at the Department. In addition to their own research, it is important that the candidate can drive and support ongoing and possible future research projects at the Department which relates to clinical psychology and psychotherapy research more broadly, including collaborations with other disciplines at the Department.

With regard to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to and develop research-based teaching in clinical psychology in different parts of the psychology education, including Bachelor’s level courses, the Master’s level program in clinical psychology, and Master’s theses. A special emphasis will be put on updating and strengthening the link between theory, methods, and applied clinical psychology at the Master’s level program. Development of EVU-activities in clinical psychology, supervision, and evidence-based psychotherapy are also highly valued.

Your Competencies and Opportunities
For the position, the candidate must hold a Master’s degree in psychology, or equivalent qualifications, and a PhD degree in psychology. The candidate must also have practical experience and training within the field of clinical psychology. In addition, the candidate must have a track record of successfully doing research and research-based teaching within the field of clinical adult psychology and psychotherapy. It is also essential that the candidate has strong collaborative skills, both in relation to internal scientific staff and external partners.

In order to be assessed qualified for a tenure-track assistant professor position at the University of Copenhagen, the candidate must meet the University’s criteria of academic merit.

Terms of Employment

  • Employment with the Faculty of Social Sciences and progression within employment will be determined only by personal merit. We do this by applying academic criteria of the University of Copenhagen, which are related to the duties and conditions of each particular post and the needs of the Department concerned.
  • As this is a tenure track position, and therefore we strongly encourage the appointed assistant professor to acquire the proficiency in Danish required to teach and interact with colleagues in that language in 3-6 years. The Department will provide and pay for the necessary language training

  • Terms of appointment and salary is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • The salary range starts at DKK 36,200 per month + a 17.1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.
