We are looking for a postdoc within fungal molecular ecology. The current position is funded for two years by the Danish national research council. In the project, we will explore functional traits of ectomycorrhizal species relevant for nutrient uptake including pathways involved in SOM decay and N-mobilization. In addition, we plan to measure soil enzymatic activities and record fungal communities with standard meta-barcoding techniques. Ectomycorrhizal traits and functioning will be studied across gradients in leaf litter quality and gradients in environmental factors. In the current project, we will therefore record fungal traits using a mix of genomic, biochemical and morphological analyses across plots with different tree species varying in litter quality, replicated in a unique common garden experiment found at six sites across Denmark.
In the Fungal Ecology Lab (Rasmus Kjøller), we work with functional diversity of fungal communities with a focus on mycorrhizal fungi. Other project partners are Professor Lars Vesterdal (IGN, UCPH) who is responsible for the common garden experiment, and Professor Adriana Romero-Olivares, New Mexico State University. We expect the candidate to work both independently as well as in a team of national and international researchers.
