At the Section of Microbiology, we are working to understand and exploit the immense functional diversity and adaptive potential of natural microbial communities using cutting-edge molecular techniques including high throughput DNA sequencing, cell-sorting, single-cell detection, and biofilm formation.

Job description
The scientific assistant will assist in the DARPA funded research project Arcadia, EcoCover aiming to establish stable, diverse bacterial communities for use as natural coatings for unmanned underwater vehicles. The UCPH tasks include multispecies biofilm assembly and assessment of community stability. Specifically, the scientific assistant will establish a pipeline for species detection and quantification by use of quantitative PCR (qPCR). Therefore, previous experience with marine bacterial biofilms, qPCR primer design and data analysis, and DNA extraction is requested. Data will be reported to the Arcadia, EcoCover Research Project UCPH co-PIs and to other project partners at regular meetings.
The Arcadia, EcoCover Research Project involves a highly dedicated research team, so team player spirit and strong communication skills are also needed.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

- MSc or similar in microbiology with specialization in biofilms
- Hands-on experience with multispecies biofilm flow and static model systems
- Hands-on experience with growth of multispecies composed of natural marine isolates
- Hands-on experience with qPCR primer design, reaction optimization and data analysis
- Hands-on experience with DNA extraction from multispecies communities composed of natural marine isolates
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Strong collaborative skills
