Consultancy in Dermatology combined with a clinical professorship of Dermatovenerology with special focus on Infectious Skin Diseases and Mycology

A clinical position as Consultant at the Department of Dermatology at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Dermatology with special focus on Infectious Skin Diseases and Mycology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Dermatology at Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Dermatology is a tertiary referral centre in Dermatology, servicing a population of approximately 830,000 with advanced solutions to complex skin problems and training future generations of dermatologists.

It consists of an out-patient department, an administrative unit and a research unit and has admission rights. The predominant activity is in the out-patient department, which provides approximately 20,000 consultations/year. In addition to this, the department runs a nurse-lead general dermatology clinic in the Faroe Islands, where we have been the sole provider of dermatology services since 2003, using a mix of classical in-person consultations and teledermatology.

The Department is managed jointly by the Chief physician and the Chief nurse. It employs a total of five Consultants, four staff grade specialists (three part-time) and four junior doctors; eight nurses and eight secretaries.

The research unit is managed by a Professor (chair) and consists of an Associate Professor, four PhD students, three part-time post-docs and numerous Master and Bachelor students, volunteers etc..

The Dermatology department at Zealand University Hospital is a member of the European Reference Network ERN-SKIN and numerous other national and international professional organizations.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Department of Dermatology provides diagnosis and specialist care for a wide range of skin diseases, a special focus is however placed on Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and skin infections, in particular mycology. In these areas the expertise of the department is attracting international patients and consults.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant and clinical professor of Dermatology wsfo. Infectious Skin Diseases and Mycology the Department of Dermatology wishes to strengthen its current leadership in clinical research and teaching.

It is a further development of a strong position as the department is already internationally recognized for the broad and impactful research into all aspects of both HS and fungal infections. The successful academic efforts are evolving into a coming role in global dermatology for both these areas; ultimately growing to fit the umbrella of global medicine. The Department however also has a broad academic interest that is reflected by a research presence in many diverse research areas e.g. clinimetrics, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and prophylaxis. It publishes an average of approximately 40 papers per year, and members of the staff are frequently invited speakers. Add to this, a proven record of numerous close collaborations that have been active and productive for long periods to obtain an impression of the research ethos of the department.

The Department is a fully academic organisation involved in the discovery, accumulation, interpretation and dissemination of knowledge. Teaching is an integrated aspect of the organization. It naturally provides education at all levels, i.e. raging from information of the public to advanced specialist training. It also receives international trainees who primarily come within the framework of the Erasmus program.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Dermatovenerology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Dermatology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the Department of Dermatology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Dermatology at Zealand University Hospital.
