In Novo Nordisk, we have the ambition to be on the forefront when it comes to adaption of modern technology in our operations. One key area is digitalization in manufacturing and to enable that, we are now investing in connectivity and edge computing capabilities in our aseptic production. In this context, we are looking for an OT Data Engineer to facilitate and execute OT data enablement as well as developing and implementing edge computing/IIoT into our data landscape across the global manufacturing network. About the team The team Aseptic Production Manufacturing Intelligence (AP MI) is focused on developing, piloting and scaling digital and smart factory solutions for aseptic production and its support functions. We lead the way and set the standards for MI in the aseptic production by applying some of the newest technologies available e.g. AI, Predictive Maintenance and Digital Twin. Our team consists of MI project managers, data scientists & tech. engineers and students and we are located in Bagsværd, Denmark. We are close to operations and work hand-in-hand with our IT organisation who provides the IT infrastructure which we fully integrate our OT layer to. The area is growing fast, and your colleagues in AP MI are working hard to develop, implement and scale the best digital solutions to our production. The challenge As our new OT Data Engineer you will be supporting the sites to identify and enable new and existing data sources of multiple types (e.g. PLC, MES, information systems, retrofitted sensors, cameras) and/or developing and implementing edge computing (e.g. I/O systems, Edge controllers, Smart Sensors, Vision systems) needed in order to enable MI solutions. To succeed in this role you need to be able to match business needs with the best-fit solution for data enablement/processing depending on the specific requirements. In the role it will be key that you can combine programming, signal processing, Operational Technology/IIOT development, and automation with good communication and collaboration skills with your stakeholders at production sites, central IT functions and sometimes OT technology vendors. Moreover, you need to be a role model in the use of FAIR principles to harmonise equipment data by applying standard naming conventions, structure, and contextualized metadata for data scientists and developers to easily access for the purposes of data analytics and process improvement. Main tasks of the OT Data Engineer are:
  • Helping the AP sites to enable OT data in the right format at the right time, often through real-time data pipelines
  • Implement and document edge computing features for signal processing and data parsing embedded on edge devices (e.g. PdM use-cases)
  • Defining and supporting sites to add new data sources (e.g. installing accelerometers)
  • Integrate OT solutions to IT landscape with highest possible robustness
  • Sparring with local stakeholders to improve data quality
  • Technical Troubleshooting in the OT layer
    • Qualifications Your academic background is Computer, Electronics, Automation or Data/IT/OT Engineering, MSc., or similar, and you have 2+ years of experience from a similar area. Ideally you have experience with manufacturing and IIOT/edge computing. Further you have experience within:
  • IT/OT messaging protocol such as OPC UA, MQTT and TCP/IP
  • PLC and MES systems
  • Java, Python, C, or similar programming languages
  • SQL querying
  • Real-time data pipelines
  • Harmonisation of data
  • Operational technology and production automation systems
  • Cloud and webservices knowledge (AWS, JSON, XML, Azure) is a plus, not mandatory
    • As a person you are a very structured person and like writing and documenting tasks. You are flexible, proactive, self-driven and team oriented. You are eager to learn, and you are curious of nature. As our corporate language is English, we expect you to be fluent both in writing and spoken. It is a plus if you have experience with integrating to various system of records within a corporate environment using different protocols, or have previous experience working in a regulated environment, but not a must.
