About the role

DFDS has embarked on a journey towards 45% reduction in CO2 emissions in 2030 for its Ferry Division and 50% absolute reduction for its Logistics Division. Climate neutrality to be reached in 2050. DFDS has launched multiple decarbonization initiatives impacting all functional areas across the organization.

To drive this journey forward, we are now looking for an ambitious Head of Decarbonization.

In the position as Head of Decarbonization, you will take a leading role in reviewing and setting the overall strategy, direction, and prioritization in partnership with technical and functional experts and coordinating our efforts towards a greener future.

The role includes driving and managing the portfolio of DFDS’ decarbonization efforts, as we progress towards climate neutrality.

As Head of Decarbonization, you will naturally work in a highly cross-functional setting bringing together operational, commercial, IT, regulatory and other requirements to sustain a strategic direction to our decarbonization targets as technology and the political landscape changes.

Therefore, you will be responsible for building a solid bridge between customers, corporate functions, commercial personnel, technical functions, and executive management.

The Head of Decarbonization reports to the CEO with functional reporting to the newly formed Decarbonization Board. The permanent members of the Decarbonization Board are our CEO, Head of Ferry Division, Head of Logistics Division, Head of Innovation and Partnerships and Head of CSR.

Responsibility areas:

  • Executes strategic priorities in collaboration with technical experts across Ferry and Logistics
  • Initiates potential revision and maintains the decarbonization pathway and targets through regular engagement with those technical departments responsible for delivering decarbonization initiatives
  • Coordinates and manages the portfolio of decarbonization efforts driven by partners across ferry and logistics by sustaining a both 2030 and 2050 view of technical initiatives, platforms, processes, and resources needed to deliver on the decarbonization targets
  • Develops tools and processes incl. KPIs to track progress in partnership with CSR and Finance, responsible for carbon reporting
  • Drives the Decarbonization Board including regularly updating the portfolio of decarbonization efforts based on progress and ensuring most pressing decision points are brought to the Board for final decision making
  • Engagement with and coordination of all relevant internal stakeholders
  • Supports our commercial divisions with development of low-carbon commercial products

Composition and size of team to be determined after announcement of this position.

Your ideal profile

The ideal person for this position is an experienced leader, with relevant experience from within the field of decarbonization and possibly innovation and digitization, who can bring a strategic, collaborative, and commercial mindset to our decarbonization journey.

Prior experience within the transport sector is an advantage; most importantly, the ideal candidate has a strong ability to maintain overview, collaborate and coordinate efforts across multiple functions while maintaining a strategic perspective.

To be able to succeed in this role, the ideal person for this position will have the following qualifications:

  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver complex customer facing products and internal projects
  • Excellent organizational, analysis and problem-solving skills including applying analysis to complex business issues
  • Proven ability to create, lead and understand complex business cases
  • Demonstrate ability to understand complex technical areas such as propulsion methods, production of alternative fuel types, charging infrastructure etc.
  • Show a genuine passion for decarbonization
  • Proven project management skills
  • Commercial understanding with focus on identifying customer needs and linking this to technical solutions
  • Knowledgeable in process analysis with an eye for performance optimization
  • Drive for continuously improving own and DFDS performance and
  • Good communication skills
