The PositionAs Head of MS Characterisation, you will lead a dedicated team of specialists within LC-MS-based analytical characterisation of drug candidates in early-stage research.You will use your leadership experience, solid scientific background, and understanding of the pharmaceutical value chain to guide the team, for effective cross-functional collaboration and maximum impact in our early project portfolio.In our dynamic work environment, you will keep the overview of research projects, adapting departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. The department is anchored within a project-based matrix organisation, and part of your role will be to guide scientists and project leaders on both screening strategies and in-depth MS characterisation.Together with the MS Characterisation team you will have the following scientific responsibilities:
  • Ensuring cross-portfolio chemical stability and characterisation of drug candidates from innovation teams and early projects towards later stages of development and transfer to colleagues in CMC.
  • Driving global collaborations with both internal stakeholders and external key opinion leaders in the field of advanced MS.
  • Ensure multiple innovative applications of MS in drug discovery, such as MS-based. exploration of mode-of-action, as read out for functional screening, and structural MS.
  • QualificationsTo thrive and succeed in the role, we expect you to have:
  • A PhD within life sciences (pharmaceutical science, analytical chemistry, protein chemistry, or other relevant discipline) combined with relevant experience gained through at least 3-5 years in the pharma or biotechnology industry.
  • Strong leadership background with a strategic and open mindset.
  • A solid scientific record within LC-MS for protein and peptide characterisation.
  • The ability to build a curiosity-driven innovation culture while driving business strategies with a focus on fit-for-purpose deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills across all organisational levels, functions, and cultures, allowing you to be an inspiring leader and a strong collaborator.
  • About the Department The department is anchored in Assay, Analysis and Characterisation, Global research technology (GRT). The department consists of 15 highly skilled specialists, scientists, and technicians plus Master and PhD students. The department uses advanced LC-MS platforms for chemical stability and characterisation of proteins, peptides, and oligonucleotides, with the pipeline expanding into other therapeutic modalities. Current focus areas are technologies capable of increasing screening throughput, automation, and digitalisation of the MS workflows, and multi-attribute methods for characterisation of critical quality attributes of drug candidates.In GRT, we strive to lead by intent-based leadership principles to ensure everyone feels valued, motivated, and proud of their work and takes responsibility for their own actions.
