The position
As a Senior Autonomous System Scientist in our growing department, you will be instrumental in pioneering new autonomous laboratory platforms to create the medicines of the future. Specifically, we build robotic systems that can autonomously optimize a given laboratory process, such as assays, manufacturing processes, or analytical methods.
Key responsibilities: Ensure that we continuously possess the most modern algorithms for Design of Experiments. Scout novel use cases for closed loop robotic systems within our R&ED organization. Work on building, developing, and testing autonomous robots to perform experiments without human intervention, focusing on delivering innovative solutions that help us continuously improve our existing machines. Manage stakeholder interactions. Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should have: A Ph.D. in natural sciences and a proven track record of success in laboratory process automation and/or optimizing algorithms. Minimum 3 years of experience in laboratory process automation. Significant knowledge and experience with general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C#). Strong knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE), Bayesian Optimization, and general use of modern digital tools in laboratories. Experience in operating and improving existing closed loop robotic systems. Ability to scout for novel use cases of closed loop robotic systems within an organization. As a person, you have a hands-on attitude and sales mindset. Extroverted personality and a people-oriented team player, who excels in an environment with a high degree of empowerment. You can work independently and engage with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

You'll be joining our Digital Science & Innovation team, which supports the digital journey across all our therapy areas in Research & Early Development (R&ED). We work in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with all areas across R&ED to leverage scientific knowledge, partner with our IT organization to ensure access to the most advanced technology platforms and tools and engage in drug development projects across the value chain. Using Bayesian Optimization / Modern Design of Experiment, we build the data-foundation to enable true hybrid development between humans and advanced learning algorithms such as Generative AI.
