The position As a Head of Microbial Expression Engineering 2, you will lead and develop a growing team of scientists and technicians working within application and creation of expression systems as well as engineering of recombinant protein and peptide drug candidates in early-stage research.You will use your leadership experience and scientific background to guide the team and engage in cross-organizational collaborations to obtain optimal impact in the early-stage project portfolio. You will work closely together with the leadership team in the area and together you will ascertain an overview of the departments’ activities and engagement in the project matrix organization to ensure resources and guide team members according to project priorities and criticality. In close collaboration with the Head of Microbial Expression Engineering 1, you will together lead the two teams as one, fully bringing into play all the competencies of the scientists and technicians for the benefit of research projects.Your main responsibilities can be summarized as follows: Leading a team of highly experienced scientists and technicians, who work enthusiastically on advancing our established projects and on generating new innovative project and technology ideas Day-to-day seamless collaboration with the sister departments to deliver on shared responsibilities Execution of overall department strategies, developing the people, and ensuring an inspiring and motivating working environment with a focus on individual empowerment Together with your team, continuously improve our expression workflows, strains and processes and ensure implementation of new technologies securing world-class competences Implement department and area strategies, including digitalization and automation Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery of solutions to projects Ensure seamless transition of expression systems to CMC in alignment with sister departments and CMC peers Lead resource planning for the department Qualifications To thrive and succeed, you should have: A minimum of 1-2 years of leadership experience in an industrial setting with an evident commitment to focusing on continuous people development and creating winning teams A PhD degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of industrial experience, preferably in the development and application of protein and peptide expression systems A proactive and visible leadership style with a focus on creating an environment of trust and the ability to set a clear direction An interest in co-leading and the ability to build a trust-based, curiosity-driven innovation culture, while driving business strategies with a focus on fit-for-purpose deliverables Experience in working with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders at different levels As a person, you are a strong team player who displays excellent collaboration and communication skills. You are known and respected for your personal and proactive engagement, drive, independence, personal integrity, and positive attitude. About the department The Microbial Expression Engineering 1 and 2 departments are part of the Expression Engineering Research area, which consists of in total three departments working with both microbial and mammalian expression technologies and responsible for recombinant protein engineering, strain development and cell line development. Microbial Expression Engineering 1 and 2 are engaged in early research projects using state-of-the-art technology to deliver expression systems for proteins and peptides. The Heads of Microbial Expression Engineering 1 and 2, respectively, are members of the Expression Engineering Research leadership team.The Expression Engineering Research area is part of the Recombinant Drug Research area, where we collaborate across the full research value chain to discover and advance innovative recombinant protein and peptide therapeutic candidates.
