As an Engineering Director within our Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for building a team to deliver a new and innovative platform to Maersk. You will create a world class development team responsible for building a single CI/CD system for all the developers at Maersk. This platform will enable developers in Maersk to deploy software anywhere in the world (cloud, vessel, warehouse, etc) in minutes. As an Engineering Director within our Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for building a team to deliver a new and innovative platform to Maersk. You will create a world class development team responsible for building a single CI/CD system for all the developers at Maersk. This platform will enable developers in Maersk to deploy software anywhere in the world (cloud, vessel, warehouse, etc) in minutes. You will work with your leaders to build product teams that enable this vision.

As a director, you will demonstrate the following characteristics: -

  • You have extensive practical experience gained from working as an engineer and typically answer directly to the senior management of your company. Leadership skills and communication skills are crucial in your work.
  • You are creative and come up with innovative approaches to projects and any issues that arise.
  • You are a “do’er”. You get things done.
  • You are able to understand strategic thinking and how to apply it to the work you are doing.
  • Setting goals and implementing them.
  • Sharing expertise and insight with other engineers.
  • Motivating staff and fostering collaboration.

The ideal candidate has experience as a developer and understands the software develop lifecycle. Helping shape the products and engineering teams to ensure a consistent focus on quality and customer happiness. The candidate should have relevant experience in building infrastructure enterprise platform services.

Key Responsibilities


  • Drive product roadmap and direction through stakeholder manager, engineering leadership, and outward customer communications
  • Help drive cultural change in the software development lifecycle for all developers at Maersk
  • Communicate with technical and executive leadership to articulate strategy and execution plans
  • Participate in product formation and evaluation for the entire organization
  • Work with peers in the organization to align work efforts to produce a product that best services our developer community
  • Manage 6-8 high performing product scrum teams
  • Set the technical standards for the teams according to guardrails given by the Platform Technology Leader and or Enterprise Architecture team
  • Hire and develop high quality engineering leaders while strengthening morale and cohesion across the teams
  • Provide high-level technical contributions to customer relationships and foster service-focused engineering environment
  • Ensure product architecture and implementation is optimized for speed, scalability, and reusability
  • Working with teams across the organization to deliver outcomes for the business stakeholders to define and evolve products from concept to reality.
  • Leading lean thinking across teams, focusing on removal of waste in process and handoff points across the lifecycle
  • Owner of objectives key results/performance indicator framework and metrics reporting; reporting on team effectiveness (e.g. time to value, release cadence, availability, NPS)
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to develop a comprehensive understanding of the key drivers and opportunities within the business
  • Apply tools, methodologies, and standard methodologies for the improvement of the product development process, and to facilitate simple fast releases

Key Technology Skills


  • Experience with building and running complex CI/CD systems
  • Experience with SQL, NOSQL databases
  • Experience with managing common infrastructure components (network, storage, compute)
  • Experience with Java and Spring Boot
  • Experience using cloud services in a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience understanding systems based on design patterns such as Domain Driven Design, CQRS, Event Sourcing and Event Driven Architecture
  • Broad knowledge of programming languages and software development best practices.
  • Experience of Test-Driven Development approaches

  • Proven background leading experienced development teams delivering high performance; highly available and resilient applications and infrastructures.
  • Solid technical background, with hands-on experience in automated; agile environments delivering infrastructure; monitoring and tooling to a complex on-prem and multi-cloud ecosystem
  • A track record of delivering infrastructure and supporting services utilizing
  • A strong passion for development in the infrastructure space
  • Led teams through fast paced development cycles; committed to automation, agile, lean-startup, continuous delivery approach
  • Able to work across organizational boundaries and matrixed reporting structures
  • Ability to fully understand business goals and metrics, turn data into insights, and translate requirements into actionable analysis
  • Able to present and communicate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, supported by excellent written and oral communication
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic and technical thought-leadership
